FR: Une newsletter thématique, écrite à la main… mais cette fois prise en photo plutôt que scannée. Dites-moi si vous trouvez ça trop peu lisible. (Liens et transcription en bas de page). Cette thématique, je l’ai attendue quelques mois… car il me fallait sortir de l’univers d’Ironsworn pour me plonger en duo dans le jeu vidéo V Rising 🖤 J’ai aussi revisionné (et ‘fini’) la série What We Do in the Shadows, issue de mon film de vampire favori (Vampires en toute intimité, pour la VF). Je vous la conseille, la prochaine et dernière saison arrive le mois prochain, mais vérifiez bien que vos sujets sensibles n’y sont pas! (Vérifiez sur le site Does the dog die)

EN: Once again, a thematic newsletter today. Handwriten but not scanned this time. I took pictures of my notebook, please tell me if that’s not at all readable. I waited for months for this topic… because I wanted to ‘finish’ the French Ironsworn crowdfunding campaign and files before playing to the videogame V Rising 🖤 I also (re)watched the TV show called What We Do in the Shadows, based on my favorite vampire movie. Highly recommended but you should first check trigger warnings on the Does the dog die website.

Here’s my complete handwriten text, transcripted:

There are a lot of games about playing or hunting vampires (some are serious, other are ridiculous and funny, or emotional and deep) but not a lot are singleplayer ones. I should admit that’s a perfect genre for duet games. But according to what we want to bite in this kind of games: it can be perfect for solo players too…

First is the most popular one: Thousand Year Old Vampire. You may already heard about it. Have you played to it? I have. Many times. I always remember that I liked the experience. But keep forgetting about game itself. And that’s the point of the game: you live for so long you’ll forget one memory at a time. Some precious ones, too. That’s a truly great game about living for eternity while everybody around you live so short time.

I’m glad the author, Tim Hutchings, will soon send -to thousand vampires- a sequel in which we’ll play someone who met a vampire (or what looks like a vampire). I can’t wait to play a ‘Guillermo*’.

Waiting for this sequel, you can prep yourself with… Escape from Demon Castle Dracula by Rob Hebert. A cards dungeon-crawler to explore escape the Count’s Castle! That’s a great game with good design… if you want to play the prey!

Want to play as a ‘human’ but not to be the prey? In Blood, by Groovy Dad Games, play as an ambulance driver! Infected with vampirism. Answer to 911 calls and journal your job and feeding. You need to manage 3 statistics: Hunger, Cash and Visibility.

Instead of managing statistics… do you rather tell stories using only prompts? Still being a vampire undercover in capitalism? Play to The Last Shift, by Shiraz Khan aka Dicedeeds. Roll for your vampire type (you can even end up as a Colin Robinson*!) then your complications at work!

*You should seriously watch WWDitS TV shows!

If you need more than prompts to write your story… follow the pre-written story of Vampire Lake. Follow the story of your human vampire bitten underwater. That’s a short story reminding cool fact that vampires master the art of transformation (with cool Night’s Coals).

There are other games about vampires you can find on hermit-club.cestpasdujdr.fr using the tag Vampire.

That’s a topic I’m fond of, especially for the concepts of:

• eternal life in a mortal beings’ society;

• and the shape-shifting powers with ‘monsters’ senses.

Il existe beaucoup de jeux pour incarner ou chasser des vampires (sérieux, parodiques, drôles, émouvants ou profonds) mais peu sont pensés pour être joués en solo. C’est vrai que le genre se prête à la perfection au jeu en duo. Mais selon ce que l’on veut croquer comme thématiques: il peut être parfait pour du jeu en solo…

Commençons par le jeu solo le plus populaire: Thousand Year Old Vampire (ou Chroniques de Vampire Millénaire pour sa VF). Vous en avez entendu parler? Vous y avez peut-être même joué? Moi, plusieurs fois. Je me souviens avoir aimé l’expérience. Mais j’oublie toujours la partie elle-même. Et c’est le cœur du jeu: tu vies si longtemps que tu voies tes souvenirs s’effacer un à un. Dont certains précieux. C’est un très bon jeu sur le concept de vie éternelle avec ses conséquences, comme le fait de voir mourir tous les humains et autres êtres non-vampiriques autour de soi.

Bonne nouvelle: l’auteur Tim Hutchings sort une suite (en anglais) à son jeu, dans laquelle on jouera quelqu’un qui a rencontré un ou une vampire (ou un être qui semble en être un). J’ai hâte d’y jouer un « Guillermo » (regardez la série What We Do in The Shadows).

En attendant cette suite, préparez-vous avec Escape From Demon Castle Dracula (titre similaire en VF, dispo en PDF et en ePub). Un jeu d’exploration de donjon avec des cartes à jouer représentant les salles, dont le but est de sortir du château de Dracula. Un très bon jeu pour jouer la proie.

Vous voulez jouer l’« humain » sans être la proie? Jouez un ambulancier (vampire) dans Blood! Un jeu en une page malheureusement uniquement disponible en anglais et espagnol. D’autres jeux uniquement dispo en anglais mêlent le quotidien humain à du vampirisme. Une thématique très cool. J’ai hâte de voir ce type de jeux arriver en francophonie. Les vampires sont un des sujets dont je suis fan, en particulier pour ces 2 concepts:

• la vie éternelle au sein d’une société mortelle et donc une traversée du temps;

• la métamorphose et autres trucs de ‘monstres’.
